Monday Round-Up: Earl Thomas, Michael Bennett, Jordan Babineaux Lead Flood Relief Campaigns

Earl Thomas, Michael Bennett and Jordan Babineaux are all leading campaigns to raise money for those in need in Texas after Hurricane Harvey.

Happy Labor Day, 12s.

Here's a look at what's "out there" for today — Monday, September 4 — about your Seattle Seahawks:

Thomas, Bennett And Babineaux Lead Flood Relief Campaigns

The flooding in the state of Texas due to Hurricane Harvey has hit close to home for Seahawks Earl Thomas and Michael Bennett, as well as Seahawks Legend Jordan Babineaux. And the three of them are taking acting to rebuild their communities and help them get back on their feet.

Thomas, a native of Orange, Texas, donated $50,000 and partnered with Denver Broncos running back Jamaal Charles (who also donated $50,000) to help gather funds to purchase food, clothes, shelter and more for families impacted by the storm.

Last Thursday, before the Seahawks' preseason finale in Oakland, Bennett announced his donation of $25,000 to the cause with the Seahawks adding another $50,000. Through his foundation, The Bennett Foundation, Bennett has been raising funds for supplies. Over the weekend, Bennett's fundraising efforts went over $100,000 to aid victims.

Babineaux, a native of Port Arthur, Texas, is aiming to raise $100,000 and said he will even hand deliver the funds himself.

"It's my calling," Babineaux told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson. "That's my calling. Many people are doing a number of things and donating to the national organizations … and that's great and those people do amazing jobs, but this is too personal to not feel like my initiative is not coming directly from me (and) is going to my people. I'm humbled by it for sure."

Social Post Of The Day

Today's "Social Post of the Day" comes from former Seahawks wide receiver Jermaine Kearse, who thanked the city of Seattle after being traded last Friday:

More From Around The Web

Over the weekend, the Seahawks completed a few trades and announced which players they cut to finalize their 53-man roster.

A breakdown of the 53 by each position can be found here.

Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times believes the Seahawks could have their best defensive line since 2013, the year they won the Super Bowl.

Gregg Bell of The News Tribune believes Thomas’ return it the biggest thing to watch in Seattle's season opener against Green Bay.

Brady Henderson of ESPN.com recapped all of the trades the Seahawks completed over the weekend.

ESPN's Mike Sando talked with NFL executives around the league about the different reasons why there have been a great dosage of trades since the beginning of August.

Finally, Peter King of The MMQB predicted that the Seahawks will face New England in Super Bowl 52.

*Briefly, I am picking a Super Bowl 49 rematch because—though each team has flaws—I like the quarterbacks, I like each coaches' imagination, I like the offensive weapons (even the new and strange weaponry in New England), and I like the Seattle defense. A lot. The acquisition of three-technique defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson by Seattle on Friday clinched it for me; I look at a Michael Bennett/Richardson/Jarran Reed/Cliff Avril front, with Frank Clark the nickel rusher or more, as the best in the NFC. Just about unblockable.  *

Justin Britt tossed the ceremonial first pitch for the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night at Safeco Field, where the Seahawks center was joined by Sheldon Richardson, the defensive lineman who was acquired Friday via trade with the New York Jets.
