Seahawks, Symetra Award Apollo Elementary School With “Classroom MVP Award”
Last Friday at CenturyLink Field, the Seattle Seahawks and Symetra presented Apollo Elementary with a $20,000 education grant to fund the “Apollo Reading Rocket” program, a student achievement program designed to help at-risk students maintain critically important reading skills over the summer.
Apollo’s program was one of the many nominated for the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom MVP Award, which was evaluated on components such as innovation, feasibility and demonstrated need. They were announced as 2016 recipients in the Coaches Loft at the stadium.
Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett made a visit during the presentation in front of 16 local King county teachers who were recognized as part of the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom program. The teachers were selected as those who made a difference in students’ lives and go beyond their daily responsibilities to help students in and out of the classroom. Lockett also conducted a meet-and-greet and Q&A with the teachers.
