Following the Week 15 game against the Los Angeles Rams, Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll told the team to "stay focused" and "control what they can control" as the Seahawks start to look towards next week's game. Watch
The first official week of free agency in the NFL offseason has come to a close.
While the Seahawks have made a few moves during the early period, their rivals in the NFC West division have been very active. Here’s a quick overview of the moves each team in the division conducted: Read
Bruce Arians’ team lost one of their best players in defensive lineman Calais Campbell this free agency. An unrestricted free agent, Campbell signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars and is one of the Jaguars’ many defensive additions this offseason. Even though the Cardinals added Jarvis Jones and Antoine Bethea this week, they lost starting safety Tony Jefferson — who just came off a career season — to Baltimore. Arizona will have a few new pieces on defense in 2017.
Key additions: Jarvis Jones, Antoine Bethea, Phil Dawson, Karlos Dansby
Key losses: Tony Jefferson, Calais Campbell, D.J. Swearinger, Chandler Catanzaro, Marcus Cooper, Alex Okafor, Earl Watford Read
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams started free agency grabbing one of the most reliable and productive offensive linemen on the market in Andrew Whitworth. Adding Whitworth not only gives second-year quarterback Jared Goff good blindside protection, but it shuffles Los Angeles’ line by moving former No. 2 overall pick Greg Robinson to guard. The Rams will find out soon how the transition fares. Goff lost his No. 1 target from last season in Kenny Britt to Cleveland, but adding Robert Woods and using the upcoming draft can help fill his void.
Key additions: Andrew Whitworth, Robert Woods, Lance Dunbar, Kayvon Webster, Connor Barwin
Key losses: Lance Kendricks, Kenny Britt Read
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers were easily the most active team in the division this week in free agency as they transition to the Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch era. The 49ers signed quarterbacks Brian Hoyer — who Shanahan coached while a member of the Browns’ coaching staff — and Matt Barkley. Changing the skill position players on their roster, the 49ers traded wide receiver Torrey Smith to Philadelphia and signed vertical-threat Pierre Garcon and fullback Kyle Juszcyk. Defensively, the 49ers added depth in former Seahawks linebackers Brock Coyle and Malcolm Smith along with defensive lineman Earl Mitchell.
Key additions: Brian Hoyer, Jeremy Zuttah (trade), Earl Mitchell, Pierre Garcon, Malcolm Smith, Robbie Gould, Kyle Juszcyk, Brock Coyle, Aldrick Robinson, Matt Barkley
Key losses: Torrey Smith (trade), Antoine Bethea, Phil DawsonRead
