On this date: Russell Wilson wraps up starting QB job
2012: Rookie Russell Wilson wraps up the starting quarterback job by leading six consecutive scoring drives in a 44-14 victory over the Chiefs in Kansas City. Matt Flynn is scheduled to start the Seahawks’ third preseason game, but can’t because of soreness in his right elbow. So Wilson, the team’s third-round draft choice, starts and completes 13 of 19 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns for a 134.8 passer rating. Two days later, coach Pete Carroll announces that Wilson has beaten out incumbent starter Tarvaris Jackson and free-agent addition Flynn for the starting job. In his two seasons as the starter, Wilson has led the Seahawks to a 24-8 record in the regular season and also is 4-1 in the postseason – including the Seahawks’ first road playoff victory since 1983 and the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship.
