Tuesday Round-Up: What we learned from Practice 9 of Training Camp
Here's a look at what's "out there" for today - Tuesday, August 5 - about your Seattle Seahawks:
More Reps For B.J. Daniels
Offseason acquisition Terrelle Pryor and incumbent backup Tarvaris Jackson have been seeing most of the work behind starter Russell Wilson, but Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said the increased workload for Daniels comes in preparation for Thursday's preseason opener against the Denver Broncos.
"B.J. has had to take a backseat here through camp because we’re taking a great look at Terrelle Pryor,” Carroll said. “But we’ve got to get B.J. ready to play in the game. We’d like to see him play, so we just need to get him some more reps.”
Competition At Right Tackle Continues
With Michael Bowie being claimed by the Cleveland Browns after the Seahawks waived the second-year player with an injured designation on Saturday, the club added a pair of offensive linemen on Monday morning to add to the ongoing competition at right tackle. Cory Brandon and Wade Smith join the battle between Justin Britt and veteran Eric Winston.
“They’re real good guys and smart guys. That helps us as we try to mold this thing together.”
Britt, a 2014 second-round draft pick of Seattle, has been working in first with the No. 1 offense, but Carroll insists the competition is ongoing.
"We have flexibility in how we’re going to do it,” said Carroll. “And we’re going to take our time in figuring it out."
Kevin Norwood's Foot
One of the lingering injuries through camp has been to rookie wide receiver Kevin Norwood, who has been sidelined the past two weeks with a foot injury. On Monday, coach Carroll said they're still evaluating the situation.
"We are waiting for some more information on him," said Carroll. "We are going to take our time with him. He's not going to come back right away."
Norwood's foot injury stems from a setback he suffered in college at the University of Alabama.
Byron Maxwell On SI.com's All-Underrated Defense
Fourth-year cornerback Byron Maxwell, who recorded four interceptions in starts over the Seahawks' final five games of 2013, has been named to SI.com's All-Underrated defensive team.
On Maxwell, SI.com's Doug Farrar writes, "Maxwell didn't see much time in Seattle's secondary until after the suspensions of Brandon Browner and Walter Thurmond, but when he got his shot, the sixth-round pick in 2011 allowed a miniscule 47.8 quarterback rating in the second half of the regular season. Maxwell was undressed a bit on the postseason, but he came out of nowhere to add his name as a starter to the best secondary in football."
Tweet of the Day
Today's "Tweet of the Day" comes from newly-signed offensive lineman Wade Smith, the former Houston Texans veteran who made the Pro Bowl as an offensive guard after the 2012 season.
