Monday Round-Up: Christine Michael to take autistic teen to prom; Carroll talks Wilson's development
Good morning, 12th Man. Here's a look at what's "out there" for today - Monday, March 31 - about your Seattle Seahawks:
Running back Christine Michael, drafted in the second round by the Seahawks out of Texas A&M last year, will make a high school girl's prom night one to remember next month. Michael has promised to attend prom at Anahuac High School in Anahuac, Texas with Taylor Kirkwood, the school's 18-year-old autistic Homecoming Queen who until surgery a couple of years ago suffered from scoliosis.
"After my teacher showed me the picture, my eyes just lit up," Kirkwood told KPRC's Samantha Ptashkin.
Michael's prom date with Kirkwood is set for April 12.
Peter King of TheMMQB.com brings powerful details on former NFL quarterback Jim Kelly's second battle with cancer in today's "Monday Morning Quarterback" column.
Also within King's column, he has takeaways from a conversation with Seahawks coach Pete Carroll that took place at last week's NFL Annual Meeting. King asked Carroll about Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson's continued development after the 2012 third-round draft pick has won the Super Bowl in just his second season.
Seahawks All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman celebrated his 26th birthday yesterday and our Digital Media Writer Clare Farnsworth tells us all the things Sherman has to be thankful for. We also offer a social media glimpse at how Sherman enjoyed his birthday weekend with family and friends.
Also here at Seahawks.com, Farnsworth let's us know what the coaching staff expects out of cornerback Tharold Simon, whose role could be expanded in his second season with the free-agent losses of Brandon Browner (New England Patriots) and Walter Thurmond (New York Giants).
Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times has an updated Seahawks free agency tracker as the NFL open market enters its fourth week.
And Pat Kirwan of CBSSports.com has his latest mock draft with the Seahawks performing a mock trade with the Oakland Raiders, a move that drops Seattle out of the first round and puts their first pick at No. 36 overall.
