Pete Carroll: Percy Harvin still going through concussion protocol
Head coach Pete Carroll addressed the media this afternoon ahead of the team's 1:45 p.m. "Turnover Thursday" practice and preparation for Sunday's NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers at CenturyLink Field.
Carroll said wide receiver Percy Harvin is still going through the NFL's concussion protocol and would not practice on Thursday, noting physicians are the ones who determine whether or not he'll be cleared in time for Sunday's game.
"We don't know anything," Carroll said of Harvin's availability.
Carroll will meet with reporters again on Friday after practice, at which time you can expect another update on the 25-year-old receiver.
Linebacker K.J. Wright will participate in practice for the second consecutive day after missing the past four games with a fractured foot. Wright was limited in his work on Wednesday afternoon, and Carroll said today would be a "big day" in determining his readiness for Sunday.
"It looked like there will be no problems, but we'll wait and see," said Carroll.
Third-year linebacker Malcolm Smith has taken Wright's place in the starting lineup, but Carroll hinted Wright would return to his role at weakside linebacker if he's able to dress up for gameday.
"If he's ready to play, he's playing," Carroll said.
Below are a few more bits of news and notes from Carroll's Thursday presser: Read
- Carroll had several kind words for the 12th Man, saying "You couldn't pick a better venue to play a championship game in anywhere that I could even imagine than right here at CenturyLink Field. The 12s are something really unique and special."
- "There's no weaknesses. You have to just wear on them and hope that you can find your edges on gameday." Carroll, on the most challenging aspect of playing against the 49ers
- Carroll did not fully commit to naming rookie Michael Bowie the starter at left guard, but said his solid play was the reason for him replacing James Carpenter in the starting lineup this past week against the Saints. "We're looking forward to him playing again."
