Seahawks and fantasy players have Super visions
The Seahawks will travel to New Jersey’s Met Life Stadium this week, the site of Super Bowl XLVIII. The ‘Hawks will be hoping to return to the site in February after taking on the Giants on Sunday in their first order of business. Meanwhile, Fantasy owners will have their own Super Bowl dreams to move closer to in Week 15 of the NFL regular season. A win this week in many Fantasy leagues propels owners into their league Super Bowls. So it’s safe to say both the Seahawks and Fantasy owners will have some Super thoughts dancing in their heads this coming Sunday.
Russell Wilson led a plethora of teams to Fantasy glory with a great late-season run of performances in 2012, and he is a strong start among many others at QB in Week 15. The Giants allow 16.79 NFL.com points per game to opposing quarterbacks, a figure which puts them in the middle of the pack overall in such a statistic. But after facing the 49ers, Wilson will find the New York pass defense much easier to navigate, and with the Seahawks having their focus on wrapping up the NFC West and a first-round playoff bye, he will be hard to deny. You can start Wilson with a lot of confidence this week.
The Giants are respectable against the run, allowing 16.68 opposing Fantasy PPG, yet you simply cannot entertain any thoughts of benching Marshawn Lynch when you want to have an opportunity to play in your league Super Bowl. Even if the Giants stack their fronts against Lynch and make him work hard for yardage, as some recent opponents have done, keeping him out of the end zone will be a major challenge for the New Yorkers. Wilson should move the offense very efficiently, and that means lynch will certainly get opportunities to cash in on some short-yardage scoring opportunities.
Steven Jackson is healthy again and playing well, and he is another Atlanta Falcon who should be locked into Fantasy lineups this week. Shane Vereen now plays a bigger role in the Patriots offense with Rob Gronkowski out, and he is a must-start in all formats. Giovani Bernard makes the most of every touch and will really challenge the Pittsburgh defense, which has shown lapses against the run recently. Chris Ogbonnoya is a deeper play against the Bears, who allow the third-most NFL.com PPG to opposing RBs (22.63). Jordan Todman also has some sleeper potential against Buffalo, as he may have to start in place of an injured Maurice Jones-Drew.
The Lions allow the second-highest Fantasy PPG to opposing WRs (27.54), so expect some big plays from Torrey Smith indoors after he was not able to get untracked in the snow last week. Speed merchants such as Smith can sometimes see their statistical potential capped in adverse weather conditions. Minnesota allows 26.30 Fantasy PPG to WRs, so start Riley Cooper and DeSean Jackson for sure. Julian Edelman should get a healthy amount of catches against Miami, and Stevie Johnson will reassert himself against Jacksonville. Minnesota’s Cordarrelle Patterson and Tennessee’s Justin Hunter are fast-rising rookies who can offer some nice upside this week.
The Cardinals have been the worst team defending the tight end all year long, and Delanie Walker, who has recovered from a concussion, is a terrific start this week. Dennis Pitta is back in action and is a fine replacement if you lost Gronkowski. He is a key part of the Ravens attack against a shaky Detroit pass defense. Jordan Cameron re-emerged last week and is a solid start against the Bears.
This should be a very good week for the Seahawks defense, as the aggressive secondary takes on Eli Manning, who has thrown an NFL-high 20 interceptions. After allowing a decisive run and 100-yard day to Frank Gore last week, you can bet the focus will be on containing Andre Brown for a full day as well. If you do not own the Seahawks defense, the Saints should keep the score down against the Rams, and you can consider the Eagles against the Vikings.
