Saturday is Baldwin’s 25th birthday. So Sidney, what would you get Baldwin – if cost and situation were no object?
“What would I get him?” Rice said. “I would get him something to keep him in line, because he’s out of hand sometimes.”
Rice couldn’t hold back a smile as he said that, and then added, “That’s a good question. Doug’s a different guy, so I’m going to have to do my research here pretty soon and figure out what to get him. He’s a good guy.”
Soft-spoken off the field, Baldwin’s competitive spirit – or the chip on his shoulder, as he calls it – erupts once he’s on the field. In 2011, Baldwin became the first rookie free agent to lead his team in receptions and receiving yards since Bill Groman of the Houston Oilers in 1960. This season, the 5-foot-10, 189-pound Baldwin has a team-high eight receptions in the Seahawks’ first two games.
Rice laughed before offering, “He’s probably the most aggressive little person I’ve ever met in my life. But I love him to death and I’m glad he’s on my team.”
