It’s 49ers Week and the #12s are Ready for Some Football
The emergence of social media and the connections it enables between team, players and fans is revolutionizing how sports happen. We no longer cheer with our voices only. We cheer with our Twitter accounts, our Facebook profiles and our filtered photos on Instagram.
We organize tailgates and share photos on Facebook and we create unofficial official anthems to pump us up during our tailgates.
The Seahawks are pioneering how social media affects the overall fan experience and this space is a prime example. This season we get to experience football through a different lens. This season we get to experience football together.
See, the Seahawks have given me space every week to talk about the previous week and the buzz and hot topics on social media.
We get to share the moments that just five years ago simply vanished into our memories or perhaps recapped in a newspaper the next day. Instead a fumble return for a touch down or a missed kick can become a meme and our game-day memories can be shared with our friends in real time to become a shared memory that lives on digitally eternally.
If you’re tweeting about the Seahawks, be sure to use #GoHawks, #12s and on Fridays, #TGIBF (Thank Goodness it’s Blue Friday) in order to keep in touch with fellow 12s.
So, who am I? I am a social media and public relations professional working on communications plans for global technology companies. But, I’m a Seahawk fan to the core. I literally shed a tear (OK, more than one) when the clock ran out in Atlanta. My wife and I have a pact of joint Seahawks tattoos when they win a Super Bowl and my daughter was born during an away game and we took her to her first game at six-weeks old.
I will be bringing up some of the top trends and pivotal moments that shape our experience as fans every week. I’ll share what’s popular and the key moments on social media that week. And, I’ll try for a bit of fun along the way too, kind of like this:
