Friday Round-Up: "Surgery went very well" for Percy Harvin
Good morning, and here's what's "out there" for today, Friday, August 2, about your Seattle Seahawks:
Eric Williams of the Tacoma News Tribune passes along information from head coach Pete Carroll on wide receiver Percy Harvin, who underwent successful surgery Thursday.
"We don’t have any dates, or timelines or that kind of stuff,” Carroll said. “But we’re going to be very optimistic, and hopefully he’s going to get back as soon as possible, and gradually we can get him fixed up and ready to go.
“With all the information we got, we’re more hopeful that he will have a chance to get back."
Williams also highlights the play of rookie defensive end Benson Mayowa and talks with senior draft analyst Rob Rang of NFLDraftScout.com on some under-the-radar Seahawks who could challenge for a roster spot.
John Boyle of the Everett Herald also has a piece on Mayowa, or "the kid from Idaho" - as Carroll dubbed him back in May at the team's rookie minicamp.
Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times takes a look at who will return kickoffs after the injury to wide receiver Percy Harvin. Yesterday, head coach Pete Carroll said wide receivers Golden Tate and Bryan Walters, rookie running back Christine Michael and cornerback Jeremy Lane remain the four favorites for the job at this point.
Danny O'Neil of 710Sports.com has his Thursday practice report, noting running back Robert Turbin, who started the preseason on the team's physically unable to perform (PUP) list, could return to action as early as next week.
ESPN.com NFC West blogger Mike Sando outlines how two young offensive skill players have fared through one week of camp.
Sando also has his daily look around the division.
Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com analyzes the NFC West's rapid ascension from one of the worst divisions in football to one of the most feared.
Chris Burke of SI.com has his 2013 Seahawks Camp Snapshot, offering a close look at training camp and previewing the season ahead.
Danny O'Neil and Brock Huard of 710 AM ESPN Seattle's "Brock and Danny" talk with cornerback Richard Sherman about team leadership and chat with former Seahawks quarterback Jim Zorn on Russell Wilson's development.
Free safety Earl Thomas joined 710 AM ESPN Seattle's "Bob and Groz" show after Thursday's practice to discuss his role on the club and how he prepares for each day.
Curtis Crabtree, writing for the Associated Press, profiles the addition of linebacker O'Brien Schofield, who the Seahawks picked up off waivers (Arizona) late last week.
Here at Seahawks.com, Digital Media Reporter Clare Farnsworth looks at the veteran presence Red Bryant brings to the D-line, has the highlights from Thursday's practice session, and talks with rookie Jared Smith, who is making the J.R. Sweezy-like-switch from college defensive lineman to NFL offensive lineman under assistant head coach/offensive line coach Tom Cable.
And I talk with rookie wide receiver Chris Harper, who has learned a lot from quarterback Russell Wilson's work ethic.
