Monday Round-Up: Optimism abound as camp's "first quarter" wraps up
Good morning, and here's what's "out there" for today, Monday, July 29, about your Seattle Seahawks following the team's first four days of training camp:
Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com examines the positivity oozing from Seahawks camp even in the wake of wide receiver Percy Harvin landing on the team's physically unable to perform (PUP) list to start the preseason.
La Canfora also passes along his observations from Sunday's practice session.
Peter King of TheMMQB.com has his Monday Morning Quarterback column, sharing his optimistic opinion on Harvin's hip injury,
King writes: "As one Seattle source said to me, ‘Percy’s a confidence player—he needs to feel good about his condition and himself. This time should give him the best chance to feel right entering the season.’ That is, unless a doctor in New York tells Harvin he needs surgery this week. My money’s on rest and treatment—and Harvin to be ready on opening day."
Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times has his observations from day four of camp, noting rookie wideout Chris Harper stood out during the team's two-minute drill.
Jayson Jenks of the Seattle Times has a piece on second-year defensive lineman Jaye Howard, who Jenks says spent the entire offseason working out around Virginia Mason Athletic Center, adding 15-20 pounds. Through the first four practices Howard has been rotating between defensive tackle and defensive end under his former Florida defensive coordinator turned Seahawks coordinator Dan Quinn.
John Boyle of the Everett Herald has shares his impressions from day four, including notes on Bruce Irvin's first-team reps at strongside linebacker with the base defense.
Danny O'Neil of 710Sports.com profiles the tallest member of the Seahawks roster - 6-foot-7 defensive tackle Tony McDaniel.
Curtis Crabtree, writing for the Associated Press, has a look at what a healthy James Carpenter means for the team's offensive line. Crabtree also has some quick notes from day four.
Evan Silva of rotoworld.com breaks down running back Robert Turbin's rookie season, sharing his takeaways from all 114 of Turbin's first-year touches.
Here at Seahawks.com, Digital Media Reporter Clare Farnsworth chronicles quarterback Russell Wilson's transition from year one to year two, recaps some of the plays of the day in "Hawkville" and highlights a trio of 12th Man fans that made it out for day four of camp.
Team photographer Rod Mar captures practice No. 4 in photos.
