Seahawks Sign Defensive End Cliff Avril

Renton, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks have signed defensive end Cliff Avril to a multi-year contract, the team announced today.
Avril was originally drafted in the third-round (92nd overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, starting 60 of 73 games played with 163 tackles (121 solo). He ranked fifth in Lions history with 39.5 sacks and added one interception returned for a touchdown, 12 passes defensed, 16 forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries, including one returned for a touchdown.
His 16 forced fumbles since 2008 rank tied for seventh in the NFL and his 29.0 sacks since 2010 rank 14th in the NFL.
Avril has started all 32 games the previous two seasons and posted a team and career-high 11.0 sacks in 2011 and also led Detroit in sacks last season with 9.5. Read
