Seahawks Invite Fans to Participate in Food Drive on Sunday
RENTON, Wash. - The Seattle Seahawks, News Talk KIRO 97.3 FM, Seahawks Women's Association and Northwest Harvest are encouraging fans to bring nonperishable food or cash donations to the Seahawks versus Vikings game at CenturyLink Field on Sunday, November 4. The annual "Tackle Hunger" food drive is presented by Haggen Northwest Fresh and TOP Food & Drug. Volunteers will be available at all gates and in Touchdown City to accept contributions.
"It's always been our goal to provide families with high quality healthful food," said C.J. "Gabe" Gabriel, President and CEO of Haggen, Inc."We've been a supporter of local food banks for many years and we're proud to partner with Northwest Harvest and the Seattle Seahawks to eliminate hunger in the Northwest."
Northwest Harvest is the only non-profit food bank distributor operating statewide in Washington with a network of more than 350 food banks, meal programs and high-need schools. Northwest Harvest provides over 1.7 million meals every month to this network.
"One in six people in Washington struggles with food insecurity," says Shelley Rotondo, executive director of Northwest Harvest. "With the help of Seahawks fans we're working to improve those numbers and tackle hunger across the state."
Items that are most needed by Northwest Harvest:
Canned chili, soup, stew
Granola bars, crackers, trail mix
Also, in an effort to help victims of Hurricane Sandy, the American Red Cross will have volunteers at the game collecting cash donations to aid in the disaster relief.
