12th Fan View - vs. Dallas Cowboys
The home opener of the 2012 season saw the Seattle Seahawks take on the bane of my childhood, the Dallas Cowboys. I grew up in Texas during the 1970’s, the time of Landry and Staubach. Nearly all of my friends were Cowboy fans.
Earlier this spring, I received a message from an old high school friend who lives in Dallas that wanted to attend both a Seahawks game and a Mariners game in the same weekend. He is one of those guys who is attempting to make it to all NFL and MLB stadia before his time is done.
After the Seahawks schedule was released, I easily spotted which game he should attend, the Seahawks-Cowboys game. Lo and behold, the Mariners were playing the Orioles, his favorite baseball team, on the Monday evening following the Cowboys. A slam-dunk as far as which weekend would be best for him to come.
He recruited one of his best friends, also an alum of my high school that now lives in Pennsylvania, to accompany him for the weekend. I hadn’t seen either of them for 29 years until last summer at my high school’s 50th Anniversary All-Class Reunion. To see these two old high school friends again so soon is amazing. And to be able to host them in our beautiful city was right up my alley.
The Seahawks were gracious enough to give me field passes to impress my friends with, and impressed they were. I had never been on the field pre-game, so it was a very nice treat for me, as well. We all had a great time checking out the players at close range and just generally soaking in the pre-game excitement.
The game was incredible for me, not so much fun for my friends. But they were duly impressed with not only our team, but the stadium, the entire city and everyone they encountered, whom they claimed were as nice as could be for the entire weekend. They both had a great time, with the exception of that little hiccup on Sunday afternoon...
