Bobby Wagner: Game day experience
Friday night and Saturday morning I watched a lot of film and listened to a lot of music – hip-hop, rap, R&B, just some smooth stuff – in preparation for Saturday night’s preseason opener. I kind of just tried to calm my mind and get my mind right so that I’m calm during the game. You don’t ever want anything to be moving too fast, so I try my best to just slow the game down.
I have a couple of pre-game traditions I had to take care of before kickoff Saturday. Before every game I like to eat some spaghetti, get the carbs and energy in. And something I have to do before every game after I run out of that tunnel is to take a knee on the goal line and pray - I like to talk to my mom for a second out there before I start playing.
It was great running out of that tunnel for the first time as a Seahawk. We’ve got really great fans here in Seattle. It was a great feeling.
After I was able to get out on the field for the first time and make my first NFL tackle it was kind of just like a sigh of relief because so many of us have been waiting for that day and for that moment. Now I know what it feels like to run out of that tunnel and make that first play, so it’s out of the way and I can just play ball.
My family is out here right now, so I was able to chill with them the day after the game – the off day. We just did our best to relax.
We had a walkthrough yesterday where we talked about what we did well and what we need to work on. Today, we took what we talked about in the walkthrough to practice and we focused on the details. We tried to make sure everything was sharp – from the silent calls to formation recognition and stuff like that. The little details were important today.
I heard the new Madden demo just came out today. I might have to see if I can download that somewhere, or pick it up online if I have any free time after tonight’s meetings and walkthrough.
