Renton, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks have signed safety Kevin Ellison, the team announced this afternoon.
Ellison was claimed off waivers (San Diego) by Seattle on June 22 and waived on June 24. He then cleared waivers and signed in order to adjust contractual issues.
"Coach Carroll and I are excited to add Kevin's intensity to the competition at the safety position," said General Manager John Schneider. "He has a feel for our system, and although he is a late addition, we believe he can step in and challenge for a roster spot."
Ellison, San Diego's sixth-round draft choice (189th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft, started nine of 13 games played last season. He collected 50 tackles (41 solo), one sack and three passes defensed as a rookie. He tallied a career-high 10 tackles (seven solo) at the New York Giants (11/8/09) and had his first career sack vs. Cincinnati (12/20/09). He also recorded two special teams tackles in 2009.
A four-year letterwinner at USC, he was a unanimous first-team All-Pac-10 choice his senior year, while also serving as team captain.
