Learn More About This Sea Gal

Occupation:  Student

High School:  Tumwater High School (Tumwater, WA)

College: Saint Martin's University

Major or Degree:  Education

Years as a Sea Gal:  Rookies

Dance Background: High school dance team, and tiny tot ballet, of course.

Hobbies: I enjoy playing guitar, writing fiction and poetry, keeping a journal, trying new workouts, and spending time with friends and family.

Major Goal I Have Met:  My major accomplishment so far has to be getting to college and succeeding. My family is full of bright minds, but I am the first person in my family to graduate high school or go to college. I’m a diligent student, and I feel very accomplished whenever professors tell me that my diligence does not go unnoticed. I also feel accomplished in that I showed my family that a college degree was not out of their reach. My older brother and my dad are now well on their way to their own college degrees, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.

Best Experience: My favorite experience, so far, has been spending a semester abroad in Australia. I lived and studied on the beautiful Gold Coast, in Queensland, where I met life-long friends from all over the world. I learned how to drive on the wrong side of the car, how really to pronounce “tomato,” and how to laugh at every possible opportunity. I learned a whole lot about myself and came home with a new attitude about the world and confidence in my own capabilities.

How I Stay Fit: When it comes to exercising, I get bored quickly, so I do a lot of interval training and cross-training circuits. When I get bored of those regular workouts, I usually blast upbeat music and dance until I can hardly breathe. I definitely pay close attention to what I eat because you get back what you put in. Garbage in equals garbage out, so I try to fuel my body with foods it will be able to use, like complex carbohydrates, lean proteins, and plenty of vitamin-packed veggies.

Best Advice: Get uncomfortable, take risks, and go out of your way to show kindness to other people. Go explore what this fascinating world has to offer, and discover what it brings out of you.  The world is SO big, and we are capable of much more than we give ourselves credit for.

Best Part of Being a Sea Gal: So far, the best part of being a Sea Gal is how proud my family and friends were when the squad was announced. During the whole audition process, I discovered how many people really believed in me, and it was truly inspiring. I think sharing this spirited attitude with the 12th MAN is what I look forward to the most as a rookie Sea Gal.
