Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander kicked off the Qwest Leadership Challenge Academy on May 2nd with an inspirational speech about leadership, goal-setting and commitment to over 70 high school students from around the state.
The students are enrolled in the Qwest Leadership Challenge, a joint scholarship competition program administered by the Seattle Seahawks and Qwest Communications. The Qwest Leadership Challenge encourages leadership and service amongst high school student-athletes in Washington State.
Alexander’s speech was one of the day’s highlights for the students. Each Qwest Leadership Challenge program participant was invited to attend the one-day Academy which is designed to teach students practical leadership skills and networking opportunities with business leaders and other students from around the state.
All students involved in the Qwest Leadership Challenge will compete for one of four $2,500 college scholarships. The scholarships will be awarded based on their projects impact and their effectiveness as leaders.
There is still time to sign-up and participate in the Qwest Leadership Challenge. Students who are members of their high school’s varsity football or girls’ soccer program and who are in the 2008 or 2009 graduating classes are eligible to participate in the 4th Annual Qwest Leadership Challenge.
